Bushmills 10 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey

40% abv

From the distillers website

From the Distillery

Bushmills Single Malt Whiskey 10 year old is triple distilled from 100% malted barley and matured for at least 10 years in bourbon season barrels which give it its honey, vanilla and milk chocolate aroma. It can be served neat, over ice or if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, try it frozen.

Tasting Notes from Master of Malt
Banana skins.

Palate: Medium, very fruity, chocolate pudding.

Finish: Floral, tannic.

Overall: Add a drop of water and it tastes just like nectarine chunks in low fat yoghurt!

Our Review

Bushmills have been going from the 'Old Bushmills Distillery' in County Antrim since 1608, drawing water from Saint Columb's Rill which is a tributary of the River Bush.

Bushmills 10 year old is the first in their 'Age Statement' core range and sits above the regular Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey and Bushmills Black Bush.

Its bottled at 40% ABV, is chill filtered, although there is no mention on either the bottle or website. It has added colour, this like Chill Filtration, is not mentioned.
It has an average retail price online of £31.10 although it can be obtained below £30 quite often, especially around St Patricks Day. We give it a score of 83.89/100 for value.

Onto the nose it is sweet, a fruit laden honey of maybe some tropical fruit, however, Strawberry appeared to be the dominant fruit note masking some acetone. It is creamy with a little hint of spice and some vanilla.

On the palate, the sweetness shines of honey and more tropical fruit. There is some spice, which reveals itself more with water, which also intensifies the cream. Both the nose and palate are enjoyable, this is very much an easy sipper for a beginner whisky and one that doesnt challenge the palate too much, but in a good way. It would definetly be one of the first pours of the evening.

We would buy another bottle when it hit the sub £30 price in offers, however, we wouldnt necessarily add it to our collection, there are so many more Irish Whiskeys to try. Overall we score it 84/100.
