This handsome chap before you is the first permanent no age statement single malt from Glen Keith that the distillery in Speyside has released. Matured in ‘traditional’ American oak casks and bottled at 40% ABV, the release of this laid-back malt is very welcome indeed...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Sweet and crisp with orchard fruits and a malty character. Toffee apples and banana skins linger.

Palate: Through oaked dryness and an oily note comes vanilla sweetness with helpings of apricot yogurt, dried mango and nectarines. Suggestions of chocolate pudding, a slight grassiness and a little spice form the backdrop.

Finish: Subtle floral notes and new oak, with a little honey.

The first official bottling from the re-opened Glen Keith distillery in Speyside, which was revived in 2013 and whose spirits normally appear in blends such as Chivas Regal and 100 Pipers. This new, no-age-statement whisky is a gentle dram with notes of poached pears, honeycomb and vanilla toffee.

Review 125 29th April 2021

This is the final review in our Speyside mini series and comes thanks to a sample kindly provided by Lee of Budget Drams. Lee is a honest whisky reviewer with a great deal of integrity, his channel focuses on looking at whisky which is readily available for under £50, please consider visiting his channel on YouTube @BudgetDramsWhisky and consider subscribing. Additionally Lee has recently setup a Patreon with a single £2.50 tier link on the image.

Todays review is Glen Keith Distillery Edtion Single Malt Whisky. As recently as 2013 the Glen Keith distillery was re-opened under the control of Chivas Brothers, the Whisky wing of Pernod Ricard their parent company.

The Distillery Edition is the first release from this re-established distillery.
It is a non age statement single malt, bottled at 40% ABV, is both chill filtered and colour adjusted.
Matured in American Oak (ex-Bourbon) it is widely available online and in supermarkets. A selection of retailers and prices it is available at include:

Master of Malt £29.95
The Whisky Exchange £28.95
Amazon £24.17
The Whisky World £21.90

Giving an average price of £26.24 helping it achieve a value score of 80.44 out of 100.

On the nose, it soft and fruity with a vanilla cream and honey sweetness. It is quite aromatic with some sweet and sour elements which include orchard fruits of apple and pear and a little spice.

On the palate, it has quite a dominant medium sweet toffee note, but lingering with the toffee is a banana note giving the sensation of banoffee pie with some vanilla cream and spice showing. After the development there is a slight matalic tang which develops with the oak to a short to medium finish. On the very end of the finish there appears to be an almost creme brulee finish which to be honest is a little offputting.

This is a decent dram, certainly an everday sipper. For the price we wouldn't recommend you pay more than £25, at the lower end of the scale it is worth it.
This isn't a 'Gateway' whisky, insead maybe the next step up on your way to intermediate whiskies. So if you have tried Glenfiddich 12 and other whiskies in the style, then Glen Keith Distillery Edition would be next.

For an overall score we consider this to be 83 out of 100.
