NOSE
Toasted oak with deep notes of treacle toffee and caramelised autumn fruits.
TASTE
Baked spiced apple and vanilla smoked raisins. Rich, smooth and utterly satisfying.
FINISH
The sweetness and spice fade naturally leaving a light cloud of smoke and toasted oak. A finish which is elegant and wonderfully long.

Review 152 - Blind Dram 10 - 28th January 2022
Purchased as a 'Drinks by the Dram' sample, the Glen Moray Elgin Heritage 18 year old is an extraordinarily well priced Speyside single malt whisky for the full 700ml bottle.
Widely available, at the time of writing this review (March 2022), it can be purchased at;

It is non chill filtered as stated on the bottle, carton and the website (You can visit by clicking the link above). With regard to colour, they don't state anywhere if it has been colour adjusted, however, with it's ex-bourbon cask maturation, the colour does appear natural, described as an 'antique gold' colour as by the distillery.
On the nose;
It is quite delicate, there is no strong notes coming off this whisky. After a short while it starts to present as floral with some creaminess and sweetness presenting.
There is a sensation of a sweet shop with 'Palma Violets', 'Cinder Toffee' and 'Sherbet Lemon'. Amongst the fruits there is suggestion of peach and citrus.
The ABV doesn't give away too much offering up maybe a 43%. Whilst the notes appear to demonstrate a strong nose it is very much restrained.
On the palate;
It gives away that it is an ex-bourbon maturation with its vanilla and honey notes, it is citrus fruits giving the lemon sherbet sensation with the icing sugar. It is sweet and resonably oily, the ABV again doesn't reveal itself which indicates this is a very well matured whisky however the oak doesn't suggest this. After a while in the palate milk chocolate with ginger, white pepper and oak appears, the latter three continuing into the finish.
The palate is lively and fruity very reminiscent of a Glencadam maybe.
With water earthy and grassy notes start to appear similar to a Deanston 12. Then comes some of the sweet shop notes but onto the palate, very tasty indeed.
This is a very very very enjoyable dram. When you consider the price that it can be purchased for at Master of Malt, this becomes a whisky that you must buy. It has a outstanding price for an 18 Year Old whisky of this quality. It is superb and a bargain.
