Our Review
The 10 year old is perfect in every way in its presentation. Bottled at 46% abv, non chill filtered and natural colour. It has an average retail price of £34.90, while it is widely available online in good retailers, it is a rarer find in physical outlets, we purchased ours for £35.99 from Rehills in Jesmond, Newcastle. So it scores a fantastic 96.51 for its value mark out of 100.
The Glencadam Distillery website doesn't state too much about the whisky save for some tasting notes. On the nose we get the distinct oak vanilla of ex-bourbon maturation, the pale straw gold is a delight to see. The initial nose reveals some grassy elements with a crist sweet citrus note, this mingles with the bourbon oak revealing some spice to later savour on the taste.
On the palate, the initial taste displays a fruit sweetness, maybe a medium body with those grassy notes from the nose showing up more as hay. The fruit is distictly citrus, mainly lemon and some more tropical notes which with a drop of water display maybe some passion fruit and melon. On the finish the oak is very rewarding with a balanced spice which lingers for a while.
This is a lovely delicate malt, the flavours are not too intense, just balanced enough to be rewarding. Leave this in the glass after the first pour to open up and only half a teaspoon of water is need to help bring out the best of this dram.
We score it an overall mark of 89/100.
