From the Distillery Website:

Glenfarclas 10 Year Old with Tube

100% Oloroso Sherry cask maturation
Gloriously Smooth, Yet with the depth and finish you would normally expect of a much older dram. A wonderfully sherried whisky and an excellent aperitif.

Nose: Tempting Sherry-Sweet malty tones combine with delicate aromas, releasing subtle spices. Warming the glass reveals honey, vanilla and pear drops.
Flavour: Delicately light, with a mouth-watering combination of maltiness, sherry sweetness. Hints of dried fruit, vanilla, cinnamon and cloves tempt the taste buds further.

  • Our Review

Glenfarclas 10 year old is the first of the standard core range of whiskies they offer up to the UK market. You may see the 8 year old appearing occasionally online, but this expression is intended for the european market.

Back to the 10 Year old, it, like its older siblings, is a sherried whisky, spending its entire period of maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at 40% the minimum allowed for scotch whisky, it delivers a nose of sweet fruit. On the palate its a little hot, this is a comination of youthful alcohol and some spice, which gets spicier with the addition of a little water. Its definately a sherried whisky, not anywhere near being a sherry bomb, there is just enough influence from the cask to give notes of juicey sultana, vanilla and sweetness of honey rounded off by the malt influence of the spirit. Its a very enjoyable everyday sipper that will not dissapoint.

It scores a great value score of 88.21, this is let down by the not stating if its chill filtered, we believe it isnt, but neither the bottle nor the website inform us of this. The score could further be improved by increasing the ABV to a respectable 43%.
At it's standard price it represents great value, if you can get it cheaper then I would consider grabbing a couple to stock up.

For its nose and palate, it's another decent score of 85. This whisky definetely would make a great introduction to the lighter sherried style and retains its deserved place as a bottle to keep in the collection.
