Laphroaig 16 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

A limited edition expression released by the legendary Laphroaig Distillery in mid-2021, matured for 16 years in American oak casks. Plenty of familiar south coast Islay smokiness, mellowed slightly by the sweetness imparted from the casks, culminating in a rewarding dram perfect for evening sipping.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Roasted nuts and burning peat, with a slow build of maple syrup on pancakes and vanilla pod.

Palate: Still rich in peat with a touch of iodine, following by a subtle floral whisper, fresh citrus, and honeyed barley.

Finish: Coastal salinity and the last embers of a bonfire.

From The Whisky Exchange

Originally a limited edition to celebrate the distillery's 200th anniversary, Laphroaig 16 is now a small-batch occasional release. It takes the distinctive medicinal, seaside character of Laphroaig's spirit and gives it a few extra years to mellow out and calm down, creating a rich and smoky whisky with more complexity and an elegance that's not often seen elsewhere in the Laphroaig range – spicy peat smoke with well-worn leather and soft, sweet vanilla.

Whisky Resource Note:

Originally launched as an Amazon Exclusive.

The Laphroaig 16 Year Old does not appear on the Laphroaig website. As such we don't class this as a core bottle instead a Special or Limited Release.

There is no mention on the bottle or tube regarding colour or chill filtration (which is not unusual for Laphroaig as this is never mentioned), however, there is a legal requirement in countries like Germany to mention if colour has been added, from the little instances I have seen, there is no mention on the carton or bottle, suggesting no colour was added. However since this is speculative, the value score has been adjusted to reflect the lack of transparency.
