Ad Gefrin Tácnbora Batch 1 Blended Whisky

Tácnbora is our Standard-Bearer in every sense. As the first spirit from Ad Gefrin we wanted to tell the story of who we are and embody our inspirations in one blend.

Each edition of Tácnbora will blend whiskies that represent the peoples of the Kingdom of Northumbria. Scottish, Irish, English, and Scandinavian whiskies will all feature as we explore the origins of our story and await the arrival of our Single Malt.

Batch 01, our inaugural edition of the Tácnbora, combines Irish and Scottish Whiskies.

Details:

700ml

42.7% vol.

Tasting Notes:

On the nose, notes of honey, vanilla, candied citrus peel and spices are backed up on the palate with the flavours of sultanas, cream soda and nutmeg. The finish lingers and coats the mouth with the tastes of honey, vanilla and sweet citrus.

Nose: Honey, candied citrus peel, vanilla, cherries

Palate: Vanilla, cream soda, sultanas, nutmeg

Finish: Sweet citrus, vanilla and honey

From Master of Malt

The Ad Gefrin distillery in Northumberland has put together a range of blended whiskies while we wait for the arrival of its single malt whisky. Batch 1 of Tácnbora blends together Scottish and Irish whiskies that have been aged in a combination of bourbon, virgin American oak, and oloroso casks, before being bottled at 42.7% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Poached apples, caramel, and vanilla, with hints of white pepper.

Palate: Sweet toasted oak with barley sugars, orange peels, and custard cream biscuits.

Finish: Chocolate digestives, nutty malt, and honey-covered fruit.

Whisky Resource Note

Following a distillery visit on the 3rd June 2023 we were able to gather further information about the Tacnbora Blend:

It’s composed of 2 Grain Whiskeys from Ireland, grain whisky from Scotland and a malt whisky from Scotland. The malt component contributes 25% of the blend. The specific distilleries have not been revealed. However Jameson is not one of the distilleries.
