Smooth, balanced, fruity… The Glenlivet 12 Year Old single malt scotch whisky is an invitation to indulgence in liquid form.
This classic whisky has been called a lot of things in its time: smooth, fruity, complex, sophisticated, entertaining, classic. The Original Malt Whisky Almanac says:
“A first-class malt. One of the most popular malts in the world – deservedly so.”
Representing The Glenlivet’s signature style, The Glenlivet 12 Year Old single malt scotch whisky is first matured in traditional oak, before spending time in American oak casks that impart notes of vanilla and gives the whisky its distinctive smoothness. The mineral-rich water that comes from Josie’s Well helps form the flavours during mashing and fermentation, whilst the specific height and width of the copper stills add a delicate yet complex character. Keep a bottle on hand for every occasion.

Our Review
Glenlivet is a classic Speyside distillery, this particular whisky while not as widely available as the non age statement Founders Reserve, which sits below in their core range, is still available in various supermarkets and can be easily found online.
It has an average retail price of £36.08, is bottled at the minumum allowed of 40% abv, it is chill filtered and has been colour adjusted, however the chill filtration status and addition of E150 has been omitted from both box and bottle. No matter as this is very much a beginner whisky and a very good one at that. It gets 83.99/100 on its value score.
It is ex-bourbon cask and european oak cask matured whisky, On the nose is it fruity and sweet, florally aromatic. Its comes across as a summer whisky with some malt and spice, it has a great nose to be enjoyed.
On the palate it starts sweet, not as much as the Glenfiddich 12. Its fruity with summer berries, malt and spice. Its not too hot with alcohol. The fruit does show some peach and maybe some pineapple.
This is a very enjoyable whisky that even non whisky drinkers should like, there is no peat or smoke here. Very easy drinking.
For an overall score we give it 85/100
